That’s definitely the case at our June 20 event, which will include the Silver Age of Comic Books collection, featuring Amazing Fantasy 15, best known to comic aficionados as the first time that the great Stan Lee introduced Spider-Man!
The argument over who the most popular superhero of all time would certainly be a lengthy discussion; however, due to his humanity and relatability — he’s just a regular kid who got bit by a spider — the “friendly neighborhood” Spider-Man is one superhero that has definitely captured the hearts and minds of readers around the globe.
Here’s a little history on his introduction to the world.
The Amazing Fantasy 15
Today, Spider-Man is globally recognized, and it all began with his debut appearance in the comic, Amazing Fantasy 15, written by Stan Lee and illustrated by Steve Ditko. Lee was excited to introduce a character who set himself apart from all who had appeared before. Spider-Man was the first truly relatable superhero fans could see themselves in; not only was he a teenager, but he faced typical everyday issues, insecurities and even financial problems.
While this was the final issue of the Amazing Fantasy, it was made clear that Spiderman would appear monthly in the Amazing Adventures, a series launched during the Silver Age of Comic Books that lasted from the 1950s to 1960s. The introduction of Spider-Man certainly resonated with comic books fans, as the final Amazing Fantasy 15 issue was recognized as Marvel’s highest selling comic book at the time.
